Functions of buttons on the navigation bar are shown in the table below. Note that when buttons are blue, those screens or windows are currently visible. (In this example, the program would be on the Digest DNA/PCR screen.) Click here to go back to the "other features" menu, or else click the "Next" button to see the next feature.

Note: "windows" appear on top of screens and may be moveable or non-moveable, as indicated below:
| Button name | Screen or window? | Function |
| Genbank | Screen | Used to filter and edit Genbank files (important only if you are designing your own case). |
| Lab Bench | Screen | Used to run gels and Southern blots with simulated lab equipment. (Note: only 4 gel lanes are functional on the Lab Bench, and it is slower than using the Digest DNA/PCR screen --see below). |
| Data Screen | Screen | Used to run gels, Southern blots, and PCR quickly. (Note: all 8 gel lanes are functional -- see above) |
| ELISA Dot blot 96wPCR | Window (moveable) | Used to run the ELISA procedure for protein samples, and Dot blots and 96-well PCR for DNA samples. |
| Buttons | Window (moveable) | Moveable button bar with same functions as commonly-used menu items - opening DNA and protein files, etc. |
| Opened | Window (moveable) | Short for 'Opened & processed' window. This window lists all files that have been opened or processed (manipulated), including DNA, protein, enzyme, probe, primer, and antibody files (up to 60 of each type). Clicking a filename in the 'Opened & processed' window makes that file the active file. |
| Loaded | Window (moveable) |
Lists the contents of all loaded wells prior to running gel electrophoresis. |
| Gel/ blot | Window (not moveable) | Shows top view of gel (or Southern blot or Western blot) |
| Photo | Screen | Used to save photos of gels and Southern blots in jpeg format. |
| Help | Window (moveable) | Gives directions for running various procedures (contents are automatically updated as you go from screen to screen). |
| min / max | Makes the Help window larger or smaller (this window can also be resized by dragging). |
